Antipode New York to London in 20 Minutes
We could fly New York to London in just 20-minutes – or from Australia to the US west coast in under an hour – with a new aircraft concept, the Antipode.
Developed by Canadian designer Charles Bombardier the design is revolutionary for flight, the Antipode design may allow the future aircraft to reach Mach 24.
The Antipode could reach 16,000 miles per hour (mph) – 21 times the speed of sound.
The Antipode uses a proposed technology called long penetration mode (LPM). This technology allows the Antipode to undertake a new aerodynamic phenomenon. This new technology addresses major problems that has restricted past aircraft from flying faster.
The new technology (associated with LPM) would drop het surface temperature of the aircraft, reducing the extreme shockwave and noise related to breaking the sound barrier. This new technique and technology allows the new super duper fast aircraft to move faster than any before.
“The idea of going from New York to London in, say 20 minutes – that’s what I think really grabbed people,” says Canadian designer Charles Bombardier.
“It’s always something that people would like – a transportation system that could take you from one place on the planet to the other side.”
The aircraft would be capable of reaching an incredible 16,000mph (25,600km/h), or Mach 24.
The Concorde reached speeds of Mach 2 (around 1,600mph or 2,560km/h).

The aircraft will be able to take off from any airfield, and through a series of rockets and other technology, be able to fly people across the world (up to 20,000 km) within a handful of hours.
